Sadness as cyclist dies during visit to Donegal

first_imgThere was widespread sadness across Inishowen following the death of a well-known visitor to the area on Sunday.Professor Patrick Johnston died while out on a cycle at Pinch Mountain.The road was sealed off by Gardai while they investigated the incident. It is understood that Professor Johnston died of natural causes.Professor Johnston, who was the vice-chancellor of Belfast University, had a holiday home in nearby Muineagh, Desertegney, outside Buncrana.Survived by his wife Iseult and four sons, Seamus, Eoghan, Niall and Ruairi, Professor Johnston was a prominent figure in cancer research.Messages of condolences have been expressed on social media.
